Successful applicants for Round 1 of the Federal Government’s 2024-25 Local Sporting Champions and Local Para Champions programs have been announced.
Federal Member for Flynn, Colin Boyce said over $47,000 in total will be distributed to 79 young people in the Flynn electorate to help cover costs of participating in local State or National Championships.
Successful applicants are from all over the Flynn electorate, including:

- Mount Larcom
- Mundubbera
- Wycarbah
“These successful applicants are competing or have competed in sports including Touch Football, Cross Country, Gymnastics, Rugby League, Swimming, Australian Football, Netball, Hockey, Soccer, Weightlifting, Outrigger Canoeing, Equestrian, Softball, Rugby Union, Tennis, Polocrosse, BMX and Cricket,” Mr Boyce said.
“According to Health Direct, organised sport has many physical, developmental, psychological, and social benefits for young people.
“Playing sport helps young people learn to control their emotions and channel negative feelings in a positive way while also building resilience.
“Parents also play a key role in developing a young person’s life skills through participating in sport.
“As a proud supporter of local sport, I would like to congratulate all the successful applicants.”
