Local athletes successful in sporting grants

Successful applicants for Round 3 of the Federal Government’s Local Sporting Champions and Local Para Champions programs have been announced.

The Local Sporting Champions program provides financial assistance for coaches, officials and competitors aged 12-18 participating in state, national or international championships. Successful applicants will receive $500-$750 towards the cost of attending their championships.

The Local Para Champions program provides financial assistance for coaches, officials and competitors aged 12-24 participating in state, national or international championships for athletes with a disability. Successful, applicants will receive $750-$1000 towards the cost of attending their championships.

Federal Member for Flynn, Colin Boyce, said that 1 local para champion and 19 local sporting champions that have been successful are from the Flynn electorate.

“Successful applicants are from all over the Flynn electorate, including Gladstone, Mundubbera, Jambin, Gracemere, Wondai, Kabra, Bracewell, Boyne Island and Emerald,” Mr Boyce said.

“These successful applicants are competing or have competed in sports including athletics, sailing, softball, eight ball, equestrian, triathlon, cricket, tennis, mountain bike and touch football.

“Congratulations to all the successful applicants, I am sure you will do Flynn proud.

“Round 4 of both programs are currently open and close on the 31 March 2023 and I encourage all eligible Flynn athletes to apply.”
