Local athletes successful in sporting grants

Successful applicants for Round 1 of the 2023-2024 Federal Government Local Sporting Champions and Local Para Champions programs have been announced.

The Local Sporting Champions program provides financial assistance for coaches, officials and competitors aged 12-18 participating in state, national or international championships. Successful applicants will receive $500-$750 towards the cost of attending their championships.

The Local Para Champions program provides financial assistance for coaches, officials and competitors aged 12-24 participating in state, national or international championships for athletes with a disability. Successful, applicants will receive $750-$1000 towards the cost of attending their championships.

Federal Member for Flynn, Colin Boyce, said that 38 local sporting champions from the Flynn electorate have been successful.

“Successful applicants are from all over the Flynn electorate including Alton Downs, Bajool, Benaraby, Blackwater, Bucca, Bukali, Calliope, Capella, Drinan, Emerald, Gladstone, Gracemere, Mundubbera, Prospect, Rolleston, South Kolan and Tannum Sands,” Mr Boyce said.

“These successful applicants are competing or have competed in sports including Canoeing, Rugby Union, Soccer, Rugby League, Touch Football, Hockey, Motorcycling, Weightlifting, Cricket, Gymnastics, Pony Club, Swimming, Rowing, Athletics, Softball, Kick Boxing and Triathlon.

“Well done and congratulations to all the successful applicants, and to their proud and supportive families working behind the scenes to get them to these amazing events.”
