Single-Trip Permits for Bridges in Callide

I spoke in Parliament (12 May 2021) on the current money-making scheme of the State Government where our local crane hire companies are being slugged for single-trip permits every time they leave their sheds.

These oversize, overweight cranes are already automatically tracked by DTMR – Transport and Main Roads already know exactly where these cranes have travelled and when.

Why should a single-trip permit be the only option? Is there an inspector checking the integrity of the bridge after each trip? Why does it take weeks to get a permit for the same road that you travelled on yesterday?

With the $9 Billion shortfall in road maintenance funding is the State Government simply fining our heavy industry for doing its job?
